-
Step 2: Review the stallion
The ranch shares the stallion’s confirmed details — pedigree, testing and current availability.
-
Step 3: Share your mare
Send your mare’s registration, breeding history and recent veterinary records so the match can be considered.

Step 5: Breeding
Breeding is scheduled for the agreed method and season, with the ranch coordinating each next step with you.

06 / Breeding Options
Every method, explained.
An overview of the common ways mares are bred today. Which options are available for each stallion is confirmed by the ranch when you inquire.
-
Live cover
The stallion breeds the mare naturally, supervised by experienced handlers. The mare usually travels to the stallion’s farm and boards there for the breeding.
Often chosen for Breeds and registries that require natural cover
-
Fresh-cooled semen
Semen is collected, extended and chilled, then shipped overnight to your veterinarian, who inseminates the mare at home — typically within 24–48 hours of collection.
Often chosen for Mares that stay home, within shipping range
-
Frozen semen
Semen is cryopreserved and stored long-term, so breeding is possible across long distances and seasons. Insemination timing is precise and best handled by a veterinarian experienced with frozen semen.
Often chosen for Long-distance or international breeding
-
On-site AI
The stallion is collected at the farm and the mare is artificially inseminated on site, usually while boarding — combining the convenience of AI with the mare being on the property.
Often chosen for Mares able to board at the farm
Some breed registries restrict artificial insemination or frozen semen — check your registry’s rules before choosing a method.
